When you touch Microsoft's new tabletop Surface computer, you can feel the future of computing at your fingertips.Touch is the new black when it comes to computing, but science fiction has always been fascinated with touch-based interfaces.
The surface is reinforced glass with a slightly textured feel, so you can use it like a normal table and even sit food and drink on it. If you use special drinking glasses with a tiny prism in the base, the table can even tell if your glass is empty. The Surface interface runs on top of Windows Vista, so it's easy to hook up other interfaces to Surface such as RFID readers and Bluetooth. Such flexibility make it well suited to both retail and hospitality environments.
