A suspect in an arson opened fire Thursday on deputies and a fire investigator trying to serve a warrant, authorities said. One officer was killed and two others wounded, one critically.
The dead officer was identified as a Fresno County sheriff's homicide detective. A Reedley police officer was in critical condition, and another sheriff's deputy was in stable condition.
The man opened fire as officers from multiple agencies were trying to serve a search warrant at his home in the rural community of Minkler in eastern Fresno County, sheriff's spokesman Chris Curtice said.
